Christmas Week 2011

It's been a challenging week. Everything from the blow up over the offer on the house, to the continued drama over my sister's behavior and lifestyle, to the critical assessments over why me and hubbie aren't further ahead, to my parent's status quo bickering over everything. I just want to scream: Why can't we all just ever get along?!?!? But I'm not going to. I've done enough screaming already. Instead I'm going to do what I always do, pick up the pieces and move on. See the good instead of the bad, glass half full not empty kind of thing, and love my family, even though they can be extremely challenging at times. Unconditional love is a bitch sometimes. Merry Christmas.

December Must Have: Cuffs and Courage

At the age of 35 there are a few things I have come to realize. Like the fact that when I have money I like to spend it, not save it (hence, no more credit cards). Denying myself things is not one of my strengths, because even if those things only bring a short thrill, I believe in having as many thrills as possible in life. Ala, when I walked into Telltale Vintage a couple weeks ago to return a shirt, I walked out with two others, and…this fabulous, locally made, leather cuff by Girl on a Motorcycle. I’ve also realized that life takes a lot of courage. People will try to bring you down, love will try to break you, and loss will make you doubt yourself. And this will happen over, and over, again. It takes a lot of courage to keep going and not check out, stay strong, continue to believe in yourself, and everything you’re working towards. This December, remember that there are 55 different words for courage, and that a small purchase at a local vintage store may give you just enough of a thrill to believe in yourself again.

Darling, I suddenly feel the urge to let you know how deeply you have affected me. I can honestly look in the mirror and know that I am a forever changed man, and that much of the change has happened as a result of you. There's nothing I do in this world that hasn't been affected by you. Sometimes I swoon a little inside when I see a certain look on your face, or hear a certain tone in your voice. I never fail to notice. It's like music, or the warmth of the sun. Much of my day seems empty without that. Love, Hubbie

Patience has never been my strongest virtue. When I want something, I want it NOW, and if I don't get it NOW I obsess about how to get it in the shortest amount of time possible. Interestingly enough, this lack of patience has rarely been tested. When I decided I needed to drive, the day I turned 16 I got my license. When I decided I was done with highschool, I mapped out all the classes I needed and graduated six months early. When I decided I wanted a bachelor's degree, I figured out a way to do it in two years instead of four. When I was ready for a high-paying corporate career job, I landed the first internship I applied for, which led to exactly that. The State of My Relationship

A few months ago, I posted on my SLH FB and Twitter: The state of your relationship is all about the state of your mind. Today, this statement holds more truth to me than it did back then. In fact, I feel this statement is at the very epicenter of every relationship; the deciding factor in what makes or breaks a relationship. When I first fell in love with hubbie, I couldn’t imagine my life without him. I was completely invested, ‘til death do us part, and we weren’t even married. Our love was strong, and life was bliss. I had found my man, and I didn't need anything else. Then the “stuff” started piling up; at first financial, and then sexual, and that’s when I stopped being invested in the same way. Suddenly I felt different about us, our future, and whether I even wanted one with hubbie anymore. I didn’t start “looking” per se, but I definitely started feeling open to meeting other people, and seeing what might happen…

I have been a Natracare girl since 2002; organic, all-cotton, non-chlorine bleached, free of all the nasty stuff I started discovering was in feminie hygiene products. Alas, Whole Foods was closed Saturday night at 11 PM and I needed pantyliners. So me and hubbie walked into Ralphs, and that's when I realized I haven't looked at feminine hygiene products in almost ten years.
