1. Yo Voy (Faze Action Remix) by Novalima – Disco with a world beat. Need I say more?

 2. Solid Gold by The Golden Filter – Got turned on to these guys at the BFD music festival in the Bay area a few weeks ago. Amazing live performance. Lotsa thrashing and sweating and jumping around in a crowded tent…with lotsa people wearing nothing much except for board shorts and bikini tops.

 3. Unfinished Sympathy by Massive Attack – A beautiful love song. You’re the book that I have opened, and now I’ve got to know much more…yes.

 4. Stay The Same by Bent – This song makes me think about those moments in life that are so perfect you just want things to stay the same…

 5. Whispers (feat. Kathy Diamond) by Aeroplane – I heard this song on KCRW. I had to stop everything, pump up the volume and start dancing around. And then I bought the song on iTunes, and put it on replay for the rest of the night.

 6. Robot Man by Scorpions – Thank you Henry Rollins for making me aware that the Scorpions weren’t all about just cheesy love ballads. And thank you my hot man for then whipping out your entire Scorpions music collection and schooling me on why you love the Scorpions.

The last week has been kinda whack. Trip to Vegas. Memorial Day weekend. Computer crashing. Itunes all messed up. But here’s what I’ve been listening to:

Hello my amazing peeps! Here is what I’ve been listening to this April:

1. Doin It by LL Cool J – This song is…dirty…but good. And damn does it bring back some…dirty memories. And if you’re gonna use this song to inspire some…dirty stuff, just remember: SAFE SEX.

2. Slooow by J*Davey – Recently got turned on to this lady by some ladies. Turn the lights down, come take it slooow. Yeah…it’s dirty too:)

3. L.A. Woman by The Doors – Seeing Dennis Quaid, 50-somethin’, with a six-pack, belt out this song on stage, just kinda inspired me. What can say, I love me a fine lookin’ man. That knows how to have fun.  

4. Pancho Villa (Version Internationale) by Magazine 60 – Magazine 60? What? Never heard of them until I stumbled upon this guy Sean Yashar’s design blog. Holy Euro Disco fun! There’s that word again: Fun. Love havin’ me some fun:)

5. Journey in Satchidananda by Alice Coltrane – Seriously, this song is so hypnotic. I heard it a couple weeks back, stuck on the 405 North, heading home. Immediately bought it on iTunes. It was on repeat the entire next day.

6. Creep by Radiohead – Because I was thinking about falling in love, I couldn’t help but reminisce about my first love, and how he’d belt out this song at the top of his lungs: “I want you to notice when I’m not around. You’re so fuckin’ special, I wish I was special”, even though he was a perfect specimen of a man–in my mind anyway. And that’s all that really matters.

7. Money by The Flying Lizards – I love this song! It says so much about how so many of us think deep down inside. Until we realize, it really has nothing to do with money.

8. Odessa by Caribou – At first I fell in love with the beat, but then I checked out the lyrics: She’s tired of crying, and sick of his lies. She’s suffered him for far too many years of her life. She can say, she can say, she can say. Who knows what  she’s gonna say. I LOVE THAT! Say what you want to say people!

1. Left Alone At Night by Toro Y Moi – Sometimes I want to be alone, but sometimes I don’t want to be left alone at night.

2. Camino del Sol (Todd Terje Remix) by Antena – perfect music for lounging by the pool. pool weather is just around the corner. summer is just around the corner. I must start writing the Summer Season…

3. Paper Romance (feat. Fenech Soler) by Groove Armada – A romance that looks good on paper, but not in real life. Or a long distance romance fueled by love letters. Either way, the prospects don’t look all that great.

4. Busted by dZhihan & Kamien – Yeah, that’s right, I’m talkin’ to you cheater. You’re busted.

5. Perdón Pan/Tone by Pan/Tone – Busted ’cause I saw when you got out of that car with him.

6. So Light Is Her FootFall (Breakbot Remix) by Air – another perfect pool lounging song. Must. Start. Writing. Summer. Season.

7. Cities in Dust by Siouxsie & The Banshees – I had just finished reading Emergency and couldn’t help put ponder a when-the-shit-hits-the-fan scenario…

3. Gimme Shelter by Grand Funk Railroad - When you think the world has gone crazy and has piled up so much shit there’s no getting out, remember we’ve been there before, several times over.

4. Electric Avenue by Eddy Grant - Obviously feeling both enraged and depressed by the state of affairs.

5. Summerboy by Lady GaGa - I think this may be the anthem for the SLH Summer Season. Yes, I’ve started work on the next book. So stop being pissed off about the world:)  

6. She’s Always In My Hair by Prince – Whenever I feel like givin’ up. Whenever my sunshine turns 2 rain. Whenever my hopes and dreams are aimed in the wrong direction. She’s always there. Tellin’ me how much she cares. She’s always in my hair.

7. Alligator by Tegan & Sara – Alligator tears must mean BIG tears cried over you…over you, over you. That’s what happens when you run around on me. ASSHOLE!

2. I Won’t Kneel by Groove Armada. An empowering anthem for when you’re trying to get back together with someone, while channeling Annie Lennox circa Eurythmics.

3. Quiet Dog by Mos Def. Simmer down now!

4. Nayphony by The Spy from Cairo. Men of Mystery can be the most interesting men in the world–more on that in the Summer Season.

5. Baker Street by Gerry Rafferty. Classic 1978. For those of us born in 1978.

6. Carry On by Woolfy vs. Projections. When you’re having a crappy day, week, month, or season…all you can do is carry on.

7. Stylo (featuring Mos Def & Bobby Womack) by Gorillaz. Love, electricity, shockwave central. Pummel on the motherboard, yes. Yes, this song is epic.

2. New Fang by Them Crooked Vultures. A tortured artist walks into a dive bar…

3. Here Comes the Rain Again by Eurythmics. I love it when it rains in L.A.

4. After the Rain by Little Dragon (Trackademicks Remix). Sometimes, after the rain, your life is never the same.

 5. Gave It Up by Pollyn. You broke up with me. And I don’t need your help climbing out of the rubble.

6. Stop Me (feat. Daniel Merriweather) by The Smiths (Mark Ronson Version). I love you! Only slightly less than I used to. You just keep me hangin’ on.

7. It’s a Wonderful World by Frank Sinatra. The perfect song for merry merry holiday-ing.

8. Little Fluffy Clouds by The Orb. Remember when you used to look up at all the fluffly clouds when you were young?

2. You’ve Got the Love (The xx Remix) by Florence and The Machine – a little R&B and a little harp equals a very hot love song.

 3. 24 Hours by The Noisettes – oh the doctor…who totally swept me off my feet, and 24 hours later I put an end to it. Yeah…it could have been forever, just 24 hours ago…

4. No Way Bang by Rye Rye, M.I.A. vs. Adonis (Tommie Sunshine Edit) – on the list: check. cocktail: check. something short and tight: check. dark sunglasses: check.

 5. Private Life by Grace Jones - for when you crave to be part of a soap opera…like Chapter 11.

 6. Bang Bang by Iggy Pop – Before Rye Rye was banging, there was Iggy. I think this song is kinda dirty, and maybe a little mean-spirited, but oh so fun.

 7. Love the Night Away (Tiedye Mix) by DJ Kaos - everything we feel when we first meet someone special, or that we’re really hot for, on the dance floor.

2. No You Girls by Franz Ferdinand (Trentemøller Remix) - I know, the original is totally fun and campy, but this darker remix is perfect for the scene where she finds Mr. Smyth’s new book…

I just looked up the lyrics, and still don’t quite know what the song is about; but, it was a great anthem for powering through last week. And Miike Snow did play at the Echoplex this past Sunday…
