April MUST HAVE: Pink

Posted by on Apr 13, 2012 in Life and Style | 0 comments

Deniz is Le Fashion Monster and every time I land on her blog I get an awesome style idea. She has a knack for picking classic pieces and adding just the right amount of splash to create outfits that embody L.A. living.

Here is Deniz’ MUST HAVE for April:

For April, I’m tickled pink.

As a blogger, I love to pick themes for my blog every month. This month, my theme is pink. By incorporating pink into my outfit posts, I really get to explore my comfort and creativity with this color. Being a blogger constantly tests my imagination, and this month, with pink being my theme, one of my must-have items are these pink “Belinda”  heels from Sole Society. These heels are perfect for April! Bold, fun, and versatile!

The reason these Sole Society pink pumps are pure perfection is because they truly put a smile on my face and…I find it to be a challenge to wear them. Good news, I love a challenge! Don’t be afraid to take a risk with shoes, after all, they really can be the ONLY staple in your look. Jeans, a t-shirt ,and a pair of killer heels? That’s all you need.

My question to you Sex, Life and Hannah followers is: how would you wear these “Belinda” heels, and what is your pink  must-have?

October Must Have: Words of Wisdom from Christian Dior

Posted by on Oct 14, 2011 in Life and Style | 0 comments

LA Fashion Week is here, and a lot of people are talking about a lot of things that are the next hot thing. Instead, I want to focus on what Christian Dior (and me) believe to be at the heart of being haute, and it has nothing to do with couture…

Accent: That little personal touch that makes a dress…your own. The accent must always have the touch of your personality… The place you put a clip… The way you tie a bow… How you fold your scarf… The colour you choose for your flower…

Elegance: The right combination of distinction, naturalness, care, and simplicity. Outside this, believe me, there is no elegance. Only pretension.

Emphasis: If you have a particularly outstanding feature it is always a good thing to emphasize it. In fact, the whole of fashion is emphasis—emphasis on a woman’s loveliness.

Fit: It is the fitting that helps to emphasize the loveliness of yourself and hides the little faults you may have.

Grooming: The secret of real elegance. The best clothes, the most wonderful jewels, the most glamorous beauty, don’t count without good grooming.

Individuality: One of the conditions of real elegance. No elegant woman follows fashion slavishly. If a particular new line does not suit you, then ignore it.

Quality: Essential to elegance. I will always put quality before quantity. Good quality materials are not an extravagance—they will give you years of wear.

The Way You Walk: Many women have been known not for their beauty but their charm—and their only charm was the way they walked. It is ridiculous to wear beautiful clothes and then slouch along or sit in a slovenly manner so that they quickly become creased like rags.

Xclusive: Your way to be exclusive is to be yourself. To find in your personality the things that are different and that will make you different from everyone else.

Zest: Anything you do, work or pleasure, you have to do it with zest. You have to live with zest…and that is the secret of beauty and fashion. There is no beauty that is attractive without zest.

August Must Have: White Jeans, The Automat, and Self Love.

Photo: LAInspiration Blouse: Aryn K White Jeans: 7 For All Mankind Purchased at: Indexx

Vintage 80s Dress, Purchased at: The Automat

About the time I bought my first pair of white jeans, Grade 8, was about the time I met Aynsley. We immediately bonded on things like Depeche Mode, The Lost Boys, and our distaste for the public school system. Twenty years later, I buy my second pair of white jeans and Aynsley opens her online store: The Automat; a hot new little haven for fine things resurrected from the past.

An hour after hubbie finishes snapping the pics of me in my vintage Automat dress, I’m telling him that if he can’t tell me five things he loves about himself, he’s fucked. I tell him I could list ten things I love about myself without batting an eye and it has nothing to do with ego. Self love creates a power within you to be who you want to be and attract the things and people you want in your life. If you love yourself, you know how to respect yourself, how to create boundaries when something doesn’t feel right, how to survive the ups and downs of life, and how to love others in a healthy way. Self love is the ultimate love.

So, before you go out there, buy a cute new outfit, and enjoy the mid-summer heat, list five things you love about yourself.

Wednesday, C&O Trattoria in Venice for a surprise birthday.

Friday, Tiki No for another birthday party, and my very first rasberry daiquiri in years. It did not disappoint.

Saturday, I bought my first pair of white jeans in years. Later, me and hubbie celebrated next door to La Loggia.

Sunday, pool day, and really great margaritas with some new friends.

Monday, pot luck with more new friends, and wishing I had put a maxi dress on my shopping list…

Red, white, and blue. Hope you all had a happy fourth:)

SLH Holiday Girl Night

Posted by on Nov 23, 2010 in Book News | 2 comments

I’ve just decided to do it. I want some more girl time before the holidays tear us apart to various corners of the world. And I hope you can join me.

When I threw out the idea on Facebook and Twitter a couple weeks ago, I know some of you suggested we get together at a lounge, but some of you also suggested a boutique so that instead of spending our hard-earned cash on drinks and food we can spend it on ourselves.

I really liked that, especially with xmas around the corner… And if you haven’t checked out Taylrz Joynt yet, it is sooooo worth the drive to Ventura Blvd. This is one of a handful of stores I hit when I need something sexy, urban, versatile, and for a really great price.

So let’s get together, drink some wine, girl talk, shop, and discuss Hannah’s latest adventures…

Date: Friday, December 3rd

Time: 7PM to 10PM (or longer…)

Location: Taylrz Joynt Boutique; 13549 Ventura Blvd. 91423

10% off all your purchases that night!

There is a lot of street parking, but $5 valet will also be available.

AND I’m going to do a fun raffle TBA soon…

Wine and snacks will be provided. You must be a SLH Book Club Member to partake. If you’re not, it’s super easy, it’s only $8.99, and it gives you lifetime access to ALL of the Sex, Life, & Hannah ebooks as well as these events (and I donate a $1 to Bowling for Boobies). Purchase in advance, or at the door.

Hope to see all you lovely ladies there, xoxoox, D:)
