This girl is effin’ awesome. You know when you meet someone and you just click, you feel like you’ve known them for years, the conversation flows…this is my new friend Sasha Jones. And I love her name. In fact I might steal that name for a new character in the next Sex, Life, & Hannah book.

Anyway, a couple weeks back I asked my Facebook peeps what the MUST HAVE for May is, and Sasha jumped in with: ROMPERS! rompers, rompers, rompers!

So it’s May and summer is coming. Time to go shopping, right? Of course it’s time to go shopping – when isn’t it? And any true fashionista wouldn’t be caught DEAD wearing last year’s trends. Perhaps you’ve found yourself wondering what’s IN this May and for the summer? I’ll tell you–THE ROMPER. Yes, the romper. I was seeing them everywhere at Coachella…

What makes the romper so perfect is its versatility. The romper goes from day to night with total ease. Throw it over your bikini for a day at the beach, and toss on a pair of sexy heels, funky accessories, and ruby red lips for a night out. Another fabulous thing about rompers is that there are so many different versions – so no matter what your personal style is, there’s one for you. To be honest, I got a little help this month from one of my Facebook fans–you guys rock! But I love the direction it put my mind in…the espadrille wedge. Of course. And I love animal prints, so this “Tigresse” by Christian Louboutin is right up my alley. And I am totally down with a knock-off:)

Next on the list: Bright floral prints. I do love the Derek Lam ditty on the left, but as I was searching I also came across these crazy tie-dye style prints by Proenza Schouler (to the right), and thought, that might be a fun project on a weekend…is it possible to tie-dye an old silk shirt that’s close to being tossed in the donation bin?

Feathers. Hmmm…I had to think about this one for a bit. And then I found this super cool silver feather bracelet by Southwestern Jewelry. I’m thinking that’s a hot accent piece for many different occasions, and versatility is key for me.

I loved walking around in these all day and night on Saturday! Get them for you, your kids, or your lesbian lover…

1. As owner of a clothing & accessory boutique, how do you cater to the fashion needs of L.A. fashionistas?

We offer the most interesting selection, and provide wonderful service and a great shopping experience.  We look for pieces that are unique yet wearable, and not the same-old, same-old. I believe that even if it’s a basic, it should have a good twist…  

2. What defines L.A. most from a style perspective?

L.A. is more casual than New York; people tend to wear more color in LA.  People also tend to be more open to experimentation in L.A.; more open to getting more funky…  

 4. What is hot for the upcoming Spring Season?

Neutrals, naturals, and green is still big…

5. What will be the must-have item for 2010?

A great dress that you can wear many ways. I think people will increasingly want to get their money’s worth from clothing, and stretch their dollars. A well-cut dress that can go from casual to dressy, and be worn a number of ways, will be the must-have piece.

6. You read the first book in the Sex, Life, & Hannah book series, what did you enjoy most about the book?

The all-too-well-known situations, and the mix of characters in the book. Every girl in L.A. can find something in common with Hannah…  

7. My best assets are my legs and butt. What should I have a lot of in my closet?

For a girl like you Hannah: stock up on pencil skirts. And the jersey dresses from Vivienne Westwood because they drape well across the chest area and can emphasize it, but at the same time, drape well across the rest of the body. They’re sexy without being too “vampy”. Leather skinny pants would also look amazing on you…  

8. What should I wear to this bachelor auction on Feb 10 at Em&Co?

Leather skinny pants with a strappy top or tunic, and of course, heels…

Ireland and I are shopping for another pair of shoes (it’s a chick thing—not a bad habit). My morning ice cream buzz is wearing off and I am starting to feel anxious. I haven’t confronted Ireland about her visit with Jack yet, and I’m confused about why I’m feeling territorial over the whole thing anyway. And I’m really starting to worry that this break-up really is the last. He has never denied me sex!
     
Suddenly I’m freaking out over everything that’s happening around me: The break-up and whether or not it could have been avoided had I been drinking a hot drink versus a cold drink, or had I intentionally spilled it all over his crotch instead of the floor. The possibility that two of my best friends could be starting some torrid affair that could lead to them getting married, running away to some tropical island, and procreating until their family represents half the population, leaving me to grow old alone, bitter, and decrepit, fighting for enough space on the sidewalk to fit my walker.
     
I’m having a severe moment of weakness and want to call The Ex to work things out.
     
Ireland takes a pack of cigarettes out of her purse. “What’s wrong with you? You look like you ate shit this morning.”
     
I put down the pair of white heels I’m considering. “I feel nauseous.”
     
I walk out of the store.
     
Ireland follows me out and lights a cigarette. “Over the price, or the relationship?”
     
I give Ireland a what-the-fuck-do-you-think look. “I need a cigarette.”
     
“You don’t smoke.”
     
“Neither do you.” I grab her pack of cigarettes.

CHAPTER 2: BREAKING UP WITH BAD HABITS.
     
I’m on my couch, flipping through a “chick mag,” eating Brazilian Acai Berry Sorbet Häagen-Dazs. I’m reading an article about ten things not to do after your boyfriend dumps you. It’s about what so many seriously co-dependent, emotionally unstable women digress to whenever a relationship goes sour: They start eating dessert all day; or drinking their favorite cocktail all night; or having pointless sex with pointless men; or running up credit cards with irrational wardrobe purchases; or chain-smoking; or incessantly calling their ex-boyfriends to try to work things out. Things I would never do.
     
I scoop a spoonful of sorbet out of the pint in my hand.
     
Thank god I have no bad habits, I think, biting at the hangnail on my pinky finger. It starts to bleed. Okay, none that are really bad. Unless I’m under the influence of pissed off. Or totally depressed. Or sometimes bored. And definitely if I’m at some pretentious and superfluous Hollywood party. But seriously-I am in total control of my environment. I shake an aspirin out of the bottle sitting on my coffee table.
